Intro and announcements
0:00
A few more introductory things, how do we know John wrote the book at an early date?
2:15
External evidence that John wrote the book early
3:22
What would the banishment of John on Patmos have been like.
4:54
Who were the recipients of Revelation? You are not the you in this book.
4:54
Prophetic books are figurative by design, God must reveal what the intent is by teaching us what the symbols mean
7:20
The history of these churches reveals that if you think you don't need the word of God, it doesn't matter how good your teaching is, you're destined to failure.
8:03
The date of the writing of Revelation.
9:27
Good internal evidence for an early writing date.
11:07
Revelation was written during a time of persecution, and this fits the first century under Nero
12:09
Revelation was written while the earthly temple still stood.
12:47
Revelation was written during a time when the other apostles were still alive.
13:17
Evidence for a late writing of Revelation.
15:53
Revelation 1:7-8 recap.
19:57
"Tribes" refers to children of Israel.
20:54
Daniel 7 explains who 'those who pierced Him' is talking about.
21:43
The connection between Revelation 1:7 and Zechariah 12.
25:41
John 19:34 is the fulfillment of Zechariah 12 (they will look on Him whom they have pierced)
32:08
They won't just mourn over Him whom they have pierced, but over their own destruction, see Luke 23:28.
35:26
The people wishing mountains and the hills falling on references Hosea 10:8 and Isaiah 2:17-19.
37:15
This is also mentioned in Revelation 6:16.
37:41
A good thing to keep in mind when witnessing all the judgments in Revelation is that God is not ashamed of, nor does He apologize for, His holiness--and nobody else should either.
40:14
If a text says 'forever', it doesn't mean forever. The fulfillments of these promises require careful thought and examination.
44:23
The 7 golden lampstands
57:44
This message would have been incredibly encouraging to A persecuted Church
1:06:00
The Lord's stern warning was that he would remove their church.
1:07:03
Verse 17-19. This is a timestamp. Parts of the book were in the past, the future, and the present.
1:09:01
The recipients of the book believed that it had direct and immediate application to their lives.
1:09:47
John placed the prophecies in the very near future of the original recipients. The early church understood the book perfectly well.
1:10:15
Prophecy's purpose is NOT to tell the future, but to edify and comfort the saints. To inspire them to turn back to God and live holy lives.
1:14:04
With privilege comes responsibility. If you receive the word of God, you're on the hook for making the changes He reveals to you.
